I'm not quite sure myself since this question came up on my biology test. I did some research and the web says it can be bad for the environment:" Bad effects on air, Insecticides can pollute the air in different ways. When you are spraying the insecticide, it also gets mixed up with air and contaminates the air. When the air flows to the wildlife, the animals’ regular health get hampered. The spreading of insect repellent happens for the temperature and humidity changes. Pesticide drift is caused by the uses of insecticide applications. The insecticides used by the farmers can produce volatile organic chemicals that react with other versatile chemicals. Thus, a pollutant is formed named tropospheric ozone; Bad effects on water Insecticides can affect the regular condition of the water. There are several ways for insecticides to pollute the water. These toxic chemicals can drift outside of the area of where you spray them. These also can mix up with water through runoff or leaching through the soil. Obviously, the polluted water isn’t safe for the environment;Bad effects on soil, Over usages of insecticides can bring negative results on the soil. The fertility of the soil, the community of microorganisms get imbalanced for spraying or using the insecticides in wrong ways or wrong amount. This is caused due to the persistence, the persistence, concentration, and toxicity of the insecticide you apply. The soil ecosystem such as biochemical processes of nutrient cycling is significantly changeable with excessive usages of insecticides. These effects may last longer than you can expect. The higher water retention can be decreased for the insect repellents;Bad effects on plants,Many large or higher plants requires nitrogen fixation to grow properly without interruption. But the insecticides such as DDT, methyl parathion etc. interfere with the legume-rhizobium chemical signaling. This creates the imbalance or lack of nitrogen fixation. The result is you can’t get a right number of crops or the growth of plants. Insecticides reduce the number of bees which is a loss in the field of cultivation;Bad effects on animals,When you spray insecticides, the residues remain in the foods and goes inside the stomach of the animals. Insecticide has the ability to change the food habit and malnutrition in the animals. The residues of it can affect the whole food chain. The birds, the aquatic animals etc. are also the prey of the insecticides. There has been a significant loss in the amount of these animals due to the chemicals used in insecticides."-credit to Tafi Nami,a Guest Author at the blogontop website,.
I also found out that if high concentrations are sprayed on the apples-some insecticides-it can be toxic to humans. Also, the best way to wash it off is with baking soda apparently...
