Emily Hinton's most recent novel is "The Midnight Library." Unlike her previous works, this novel blends elements of magical realism with themes of regret, second chances, and self-discovery. It explores the concept of endless possibilities and the impact of our choices on our lives.

S.E. Hinton chose to use her initials rather than her full name, Susan Eloise Hinton, to avoid any potential gender bias or discrimination in the male-dominated field of young adult literature when she published her first novel, "The Outsiders," at the age of 17.

No, SE Hinton did not write a book with Jodi Picoult. SE Hinton is known for her classic young adult novel "The Outsiders," while Jodi Picoult is a contemporary fiction author known for her novels that often tackle complex moral and social issues. Their writing styles and genres differ significantly.

I have only read S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders, but I believe her story stays popular to this day because her writing is timeless. Change the names of the two rival groups, and you can make the story about anyone. The Socs and Greasers are a single example of social differences coming to a head and the events following. Social class differences are still present today which makes the story prolific. She wrote the story as a teenager herself, making the situation authentic and teens find it easily relatable. None of the characters are perfect and don't try to be; they simply live in the present without thinking, with consquences looming as any teenager could relate, even if in a less dire situation. The Outsiders was enjoyed then, now and years to come.

The Outsiders is dedicated to "Jimmy" because S.E. Hinton, the author, had a close friend named Jimmy who was killed in a car accident. It's a heartfelt tribute to someone who meant a lot to her, not just some random guy named Jimmy. So, next time you read the dedication, remember that behind every dedication is a story worth knowing.

After reading his mother's books in school, SE Hinton's son, Nick Hinton, had a lot to say about his mother's writing. He shared his thoughts in an interview with The New York Times, stating that he was surprised by the impact of his mother's writing and the way it resonated with students. Nick said that, growing up, he didn't realize the depth and power of his mother's writing until he was an adult, and he was shocked to see it come alive in the classroom. He noted that his mother always wrote with an eye towards the realities of teenage life, and that her books had a strong moral core. He said that the stories were often intense and honest, but always aimed at providing a moral lesson. He said that her writing was a source of inspiration for his own work and that reading it in school made him feel incredibly proud of his mother's legacy. Nick concluded by saying that it was amazing to see his mother's work celebrated in school, and that it was a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be.

I could get technical and say that all of her characters are NOT in fact males (Cherry Valance from "The Outsiders" was an important female protagonist, for example; In "That Was Then, This Is Now" Cathy was the leading girl, and a major part of Bryon's life. Same with Jamie from Tex. Not so much Cassandra or Patty from Rumble Fish, though.) but I understand what you're saying. :)

Hinton explains it in different interviews, and she says she's just a lot more comfortable writing male parts. She was a tomboy growing up, and had many guy friends. I guess it's just what you're exposed to most -- or what kind of message you're trying to portray. ;) Unfortunately, people never take us girls as tough. Pfft.

Hope this helps. :)

It took place in the year of 1966 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The book was published in early 1967, and the fictional events in the book took place just before that, as the author herself wrote the book while in high-school, watching the kind of thing that happen in The Outsiders take place all around her.

it takes place in Tulsa Oklahoma the greasers live on the east side and the socs live on the west side

The novel took place in the year 1963. SE Hinton was 15 when she started writing it. She found out two and a half years later when she was graduating that she would be published. and it was published about a year and half later while she was in college. In the movie adaption of the book, released in 1983, SE Hinton was the consultant on the film, and she and the director, Francis Ford Coppola made sure the year was evident. On the marquee of the theater Pony is leaving at the beginning of the complete novel DVD are two films both released in 1963 - the hustler, and gidget goes to rome. At the drive in, again, the movies on the marquee are from 1963. - - Why is this fact important, you may ask... it is because that year was the ending of innocence, after that year there were drug problems (as evident in SE Hintons follow up book That was Then This Is Now) then there was Vietnam... all things that changed the American Youth... 1963 was the ending of a chapter in American history...
