Driver side door jam, there is a placard where it is printed. It has alot of good info there, such as VIN#, paint code, tire psi, and gvwr and gawr. Some vehicles, like trucks, have gcvwr there too.

Open the driver side door and look for the gvwr on the white sticker. That number is the maximum weight you can haul. The maximum weight the rear axle can handle is the gross axle weight rating (gawr) which is also located on this sticker.

Unless the camper exceeds the gross axle weight rating (GAWR) and maximum towing capacity ratings of your vehicle, you should require no modifications at all. Check your owner's manual for these ratings.

What model and configuration? You could be talking about anything from a single axle to a centipede or superdump. Typical GAWR for a tandem truck is 50,000 - 54,000 lbs... it depends on wheelbase, type of road it's on, bridge law formula, etc.

If you have the Owner's Manual, you can find out what the GAWR rating is for your van by looking at the van's manufacturer's ID plate located on the inner side panel of the driver's side door. Look at the model number and cross reference the letters with the corresponding tables in the owner's manual. This will tell you how what is the maximum towing/loading capacity of your particular van.

Chev/GMC recommends a maximum of 6500 lbs trailer weight although there is much more to it than this. This reccomendation is only a guidline. If you are going to pull more than this on a regular basis, you will greatly shorten the life of the truck. If you are talking about pulling a holiday trailer a few times a year, you can exceed this as long as you meet some requirements. Inside the driver's door there will be a sticker with a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) number and GAWR(Gross Axle Weight Rating) . It is illegal to exceed either of these weights. GVWR - add the weight of the truck, passengers, fuel, cargo in or on the truck AND the hitch weight the trailer is placing on the truck and DON'T EXCEED THE GVWR weight. A N D - now you will have to scale (weigh) the axles of the truck to make sure that you are not over the GAWR of either the front or rear axle weight limits.

Depending on your axle ratio, transmission and tow package. BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL ANSWER, WHICH IS DANGEROUSLY INACCURATE You should be able to find this out by reading the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on the driver side door. Mine (1995, 4X4, 5.2-V8) says the rear axle can hold 3850lbs. For total towing capacity, however, use the GVWR number, which is the total recommended maximum weight of the truck plus the trailer. You can go to any grain elevator in any town and ask them to weigh your truck, then subtract this from the GVWR number and that will tell you the towing capacity for just the trailer. For a 95 Dakota with a V8, the tow capacity should figure to be about 7050 pounds.

Your correct tire pressure will vary based on the type of van, type of tires, road conditions and load in your van. The best place to start is on the label inside the driver's side door. It will list a GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) for your front and rear axle, along with the proper tire size and pressure for each axle.

Your ideal tire pressure is not the same as the maximum tire pressure, and simply filling the tires to maximum pressure can increase your risk of accident on the road. This is especially risky in large passenger vans, as their high ride height puts them at higher risk for rollover.

Some vans have different recommended pressure for the front and rear axle. You may also need to vary your pressure based on the load you're carrying. With an empty back, you may have trouble getting adequate traction if you keep the pressure at the highest recommended.
