No! Fish and Chips came to England from Spain. It was dish (originally cooked in oil not lard) favoured by Spanish (Sephardi) Jews and introduced to England by them following Immigration during the 17th and 18th centuries. It became popular as a dish during the 19th century.

The origin of fish and chips isn't known for sure, though it more than likely started in England. It's thought by some that the dish was originates by a Jewish immigrant, Joseph Malin in 1860. Others say it was first made in 1863 by entrepreneur John Lees.
