When identifying a coral snake what phrase is remembered?

There are other non-poisonous snakes that are similar to the coral snake but different patterns of color. Only the coral snake has bands of red and yellow that touch. Red on yellow, kill a fellow.

The one I learned was "red touch yellow, kill a fellow." However, this only properly applies to the species of coral snakes found in the US; coral snakes in other parts of the world have different coloration patterns, so this is not an entirely safe phrase; the venomous Bibron's coral snake, found in India, has red and black bands but no yellow, the venomous banded Malaysian coral snake has red, black, and yellow but the red regions do NOT generally touch the yellow ones, and some venomous coral snakes do not even have bands at all.

Even in the US, some individual coral snakes may lack red pigmentation entirely. However, the coral snakes found in the US all tend to be shy and are unlikely to bite if not provoked, so "leave it alone, everybody goes home" may be a more useful rhyme.
