All night long, it seems.
I have a female red-eared slider, and she sleeps at night just like I do. After the sun goes down and her heat lamp goes off, she goes up against one side of her tank, pulls her head about halfway in, and sleeps like that all night long.
It's very odd, because when she is awake, she seems to need to come up for air every 20 or 30 minutes, at the most. But when she sleeps, she stays underwater all night long, 8 or 9 hours, without coming up for air. So maybe turtles don't need to breathe when they sleep? I dunno.
pet turtles can sleep as much as they want in water if they loose oxygen they will lift their heads and get oxygen
My baby turtle sleep underwater. They need to be able to get on land and in fact they enjoy it! My turtles do fine out of water for an hr or more because they also sleep out of water. Turtles need time out of their terrarium so they can work out.
2 hours
Turtles can stay under water from one hour to five hours depending on the species, water temperature ect.
they can sleep up to 15 hours
Eels sleep in small caves under the water,at the bottem of the ocean and/or at the surface of the water.
Yes, sliders are one type of turtle capable of sleeping under water. They can last for surprisingly long amounts of time but will automatically wake up to rise for air when oxygen levels become low. Even though all are capable, some turtles will non the less choose to sleep with their bodies submerged in water with only their noses or full head out. I've even seen some turtles taking naps totally out of the water. So yes, red eared slider turtles can safely sleep under water if they so choose to.
Most species of turtles can survive out of water for a long time, as long as the environment is humid and out of direct sun. It is not a good idea for turtles to be completely removed from water, though.
They can sleep under water because they can hold their breath for a very long time.
Turtles have to go to the surface of water to breathe so if they get caught in underwater fishing nets they will drown.
They sleep for about 2 1/2 hours to 3 1/2 hours!!
Answer=========================================================Most aquatic turtles can pull oxygen out of the water, greatly increasing the amount of time they can stay under water. Big sea turtles can stay under for up to 2 hours, even sleeping while submerged.
