The Bible itself gives the answer to this question in John 20.31

"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

I think the above verse is about the book of John not the King James Bible.

King James ordered that a new translation be made because:

- he and others thought there were errors in the Bible translations then available due to influence from the puritans.

- King James wanted a Bible that conformed to theology of the church of England.

- King James wanted a Bible that the general public could understand.

The King James Version of The Bible consists of 66 books because it follows the Protestant canon, which traditionally recognizes 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. This canon was accepted by the translators of the King James Version as the authoritative collection of inspired texts.

The King James Version, along with other non-Catholic Bibles, includes only the books accepted into the biblical canon. The others are regarded as apocryphal.
