They're originally from Britain, being members of the Anglican Church; however, many emigrated to America to escape persecution (the majority of Anglicans didn't support Puritans' goal to "purify" the Anglican church.)

The Puritans were a group of English Protestants who sought to purify the Church of England. They originated in England during the late 16th century, mainly coming from the counties of East Anglia and the West Country. Some Puritans later migrated to America in the 17th century to establish colonies based on their religious beliefs.
