The people of ancient Egypt believed that their Pharaoh was one with the gods and therefore he was a god.

The Romans in the time of the Empire believed that the Emperor was a god, which was what got (among other things) the Christians into trouble since they would not worship Him.

Humanists, many of whom, if not all, believe 'man is the measure of all things' and so in effect, man is in the position of god for them - but of course not a god as in a supernatural deity.

The Mormons believe they will become gods, just as almighty God, who they believe was once a man, did. Such is conditional upon their faithfulness.

Most Christians believe Jesus, a man, is God.

The belief that man is God is not associated with any major organized religion. Some individuals or groups, such as certain New Age or spiritual movements, may hold beliefs centered around the idea that humans have divine qualities or are interconnected with the divine, but this is not a widely held religious doctrine.

A:The ancient Greeks believed that men can become gods. This was a foreign concept to the Romans, until an emperor was elevated to become a god after death and his successor accepted the concept. Nevertheless, the Romans kept their true gods separate from men who had become gods. A true god was known in Latin as deus, while a god who had once been a man was known as divus. This distinction was not held in the eastern empire because of the strong culture of godmen, and eastern Latin referred to the godman as deus.

Christianty is ambiguous as to whether Jesus was a man who became God or pre-existing God who became a man. In Mark's Gospel, Jesus was a man who was adopted by God as his son at his baptism. In Matthew and Luke, Jesus was a man conceived in a human mother by the Holy Spirit. In John, Jesus was divine and pre-existing. Most, but not all, Christians now see Jesus in terms of John's Gospel.

Lesser spiritual beings who were once men include saints in Christianity, but particularly Catholicism, and immortals in some Eastern religions.
