Yam Suph (ים סוף in Hebrew, meaning "Sea of Reeds") is generally identified with the Red Sea.

According to the Hebrew Bible, the Israelites crossed over from Egypt proper to the Sinai Peninsula. The sea was split by God, Moses led the Israelites from one shore to the other on the newly exposed, dry seafloor. After the Israelites had finished crossing, God brought the waters down on the pursuing Egyptian soldiers, causing them to drown.

Yam Suph is generally believed to refer to the Red Sea. In The Bible, the Israelites escaped from slavery in Egypt by crossing the Red Sea on dry land, as the waters miraculously parted to allow them safe passage. This event is often referred to as the parting of the Red Sea.
