Traditional Animism has not changed at all. This is because it is observation and experienced based over at least 60'000 years. Basically it is 60'000 years worth of experimentation into inducing an out of body experience using the safest method. IE drumming or sound resonance at specifically 2 beats per second. Other Animist cultures use plant extracts to induce them.

New age Animism is well, new age and something completely different, often trying to incorporate aspects of quantum mechanics with intelligent design as explanation. While the science is a good thing in trying to understand certain phenomena. The only problem arises is their literal interpretation of the abstract and incorporating other belief systems into it. Mostly because of a misinterpretation of terms via the main religions, like 'spirit' for example. People naturally assume what they are referring to is in the religious organizations context of such terms, and not it's face value. :)

Over time, animism has evolved and branched out into various forms. It has integrated with other belief systems and practices, leading to the development of new traditions and rituals. Additionally, globalization and cultural exchanges have influenced the way animism is practiced in different parts of the world.
