A:Also Revelation from the New Testament. The Historical books of the Old Testament are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. They recount the history of Israel, focusing on events such as the conquest of the Promised Land, the establishment of the monarchy, and the exile and return of the Jewish people.
A cursory glance through the Holy Bible will surrender up a host of books by major prophets: Isaias, Jeremias, Ezechiel to name but a few. The Islamic Holy Book, The Qur'an was dictated to Mohammed by the Angel Gabriel and can therefore be considered a major work of prophecy. The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints (The Mormon Church) use the Book of Mormon in addition to the Holy Bible. The Book Of Mormon contains the words of several prophets proclaiming an alternative testament of Jesus.
Genesis to Esther,(the first 17 books of the Old Testament), make up a history of God's relationship with man from creation until the fifth century B.C.E.
In a very broad sense, the entire Bible is historical. But many would say Genesis through Esther are the historical books while the others are prophecy or literature.
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
The Hebrew scripture includes a major division of The Bible called Nevi'im, translated as "Prophets" which includes these five books. The next book of the bible is called The Twelve or Trei Asar which includes what is commonly called the Twelve Minor Prophets (Hosea to Malachi). Note the terms Major and Minor Prophets are not used in original Hebrew scripture and are a great source of confusion.
I'm not completely sure what this question is asking, but if you are looking for prophecy in the Old Testament, there is prophecy in many of Moses' books (the Pentateuch) as well as Psalms and Ecclesiastes, even though those are not necessarily written by the OT saints we know as "Prophets". The "Major Prophets" are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. These books are almost completely prophecy. Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi are the "minor prophets," and their (shorter) books are completely prophecy also.
(Major) Isaiah Jeremiah (Lamentations is more poetical but is written by the prophet Daniel) Ezekial Daniel.........(Minor) Hosea Joel Amos Obadiah Jonah Micah Nahum Habakakuk Zechariah Haggai Zephaniah Malachi There are atleast 4 or 5 major (5 with Lamentations) and 12 minor prophets. But don't think that the major are less important than the minor it has only to do with size of the book.
The Old Testament books are divided into 5 divisions based on the type of literature they contain: the Pentateuch (historical and legal books), the Historical Books, the Poetic Books, the Major Prophets, and the Minor Prophets. This division helps to organize the diverse content of the Old Testament and make it more accessible for study and understanding.
"B" may refer to "books" in the Old Testament, which consists of 39 books in Protestant Christian Bibles.
The list is far to long, but there are 66 books in the bible, but only Ruth and Esther are named after ladies.
The thirteenth book of the English Old Testament is 2 Chronicles. It is part of the historical books section and covers the reigns of various kings of Judah.
The Bible has 66 books. 39 of which are in the Old Testament. That's roughly 59% of the Bible. The math above, while quick, is not entirely accurate. A number of books in the Old Testament such as Psalms and Jeremiah, are incredibly long. In fact, the nine longest books in the Bible are all in the Old Testament. Of the seven shortest books in the Bible, six are from the New Testament. Therefore, it is probably more accurate to say that 75% of the Bible's pages are Old Testament.
Traditionally there are 5 major groupings of books in the Old TestamentPentateuch (or Five books)Historical booksWisdom booksMajor prophetsMinor prophets
Simply, of the Old Testament books, the "Historical Books" are discussions of particular historical events in Israelite history, such as the conquest of Canaan, the coronations of Saul, David, and successor kings, and the defeat of the Israelites at the hands of the Assyrians and Babylonians. Conversely, the other sections are "the Law", "the Prophets", and "Poetry", all of which are similarly straightforward. It is worth noting that this delineation of books in the Bible is only followed by Christians. Jews divide the Old Testament into three sections, "the Law", "the Prophets", and "the Writings".
