Hello.

The meaning of the word religion is: a controlling influence in one's life, that one is devoted or committed to. Such as sports, a particular system of faith and worship based on a belief in a god or gods. Many books and reviews have been published about the advantages and the disadvantages of certain influences and worships.

Nevertheless The Bible's teachings remains timeless as confirmed in the Book of 2 Timothy 3: 16,17 in these words: " All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work".

So it is not a particular religion but more of the teachings from the Bible that is an advantage,

THE BEST FOUNDATION FOR A HAPPY FAMILY.

The First Book of the Bible Genesis 2: 22,23 ; Ephesisns 5: 23; 3: 15 describe that God who is the Creator of the first family, who is the head of the family, and to whom every family on earth owes its name.

If you are a husband, God expects you to care for your wife tenderly. Read 1 Peter 3: 17 . God made her as a complement and wants husbands to treat her with dignity and love. Read Genesis 2: 18 and Ephesians 5: 25-29.

So a successful family lies on the foundation of God's tools and rules where everyone has their own role.

The Book of Matthew 19: 5 shows that when married, we become one flesh but remain two individuals and may have different opinions. So a couple has to learn to be united in their thoughts and feelings without expecting perfection. Read James 3: 2 and Philippians 2: 2.

THEN COMES THE ARRIVAL OF THE FIRST CHILD And many more.

Psalm 127: 3 shows that children are an inheritance from Jehovah God

The birth of a baby can be both trilling and overwhelming for a couple. Lack of sleep along with emotional changes can put a strain on any relationship. Both mates will have to make adjustments to care for their children.

So the advantage is not a religion but more of God's tool box of accurate knowledge coming from the Bible which is more important to build one's happiness. Proverbs 18: 15 outlines "The heart of the understanding one acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks to find knowledge."

And there are no disadvantages with God's teachings in all wallks of life.

Advantages:

- Religion gives strength

In difficult times, it is convenient to be able to turn to something or someone

- God is always at hand, and your friend

It can be very comforting to be accompanied by someone that is always there (for he is in your head), who is your friend, and who you can talk to

- God is a great metaphor for 'good'

It is nice to have something at hand that stands for 'good', and to what you can relate to in daily life

- Religion brings together

Religion brings people together. Not only metaphorically speaking, but physical at well (in church). That is good; so they can stand together.

- Rules bring some kind of structure

Most religions have rules, and they bring structure in people's lives, especially the not very well educated people. 'You shall not steal' is very clear.

- Religion can change people

If people have been leading a 'bad' life, religion can help them change for the better.

- Religions give answers to intriguing and difficult questions

Examples: where do we come from / who created mankind, what is the purpose of life, is there life after death, does god exist

Disadvantages

- Rules don't match up with feelings

This can be really very destructive; it destroys lives of people. For instance, think about the hundreds of thousands of homosexuals, who can not live the life they would like, because of the rules of some kind of religion

- 'Beliefs' don't match reality

Some religions deny important and well proven pieces of science, for instance the dinosaurs.

- Strict following of principles can stand in the way of common sense

- Religions separate

As religions are able to bring people together, it can create a huge gap between them - of different religions. For they all 'believe', but they still see only the differences, and not the similarities.

- Co-responsibility for (bad) government

If you supported in anyway the government of a religion, you are responsible for their actions (be it a tiny bit). If you only sympathy with the religion, many will treat you as if you are responsible for the actions of the government of the religion.
