A:Mark's Gospel was clearly written by one of the great literary geniuses of the first century. In fact, some scholars suggest that he was the foremost literary genius of his time. We do not know who he really was, since the gospel that now bears his name was originally anonymous, but tradition says that we call him St Mark.

The greatest surprise is that we know of no other extant work, secular or religious, by the same author, in spite of his considerable ability.
