Jesus Christ is right in the middle of world history. Our way of recording the years centres a round his birth.

In the Julian and Gregorian calendar we label years AD or BC. AD denotes years after the birth of Christ and BC denotes years before the birth of Christ. There is no year zero in this scheme, so the year AD 1 immediately follows the year 1 BC.

Jesus was born at a time in history when Greek was widely spoken because Alexander the great had conquered Persia, Judea and some of North Africa. But the Romans had taken control of Judea and were in the process of becoming the dominating Mediterranean power. (around 27BC - 476AD).

Jesus Christ is believed to have lived in the early first century AD in the region of Judea, which is modern-day Israel and Palestine. His teachings and his followers, known as Christians, spread throughout the Roman Empire and beyond, shaping the course of world history through religion, culture, and ethics. Jesus Christ is considered a central figure in Christianity and has had a profound impact on civilizations for over two millennia.
