Saint Veronica, who purportedly wiped the face of Jesus on his way to the crucifixion, has not been 'decanonized' even though there is no actual proof that she ever existed beyond some apocryphal writings. Even her name is an invention and comes from the Latin and Greek words meaning "True Image."

By the way, a person who has been canonized can not have that revoked. However, most of the earlier saints were never formally canonized but simply declared as saints by the early Church. The official process of canonization was not fully implemented until about the 12th century. Several of these 'uncanonized' saints have been removed from the Calendar of Saints because there is little evidence they ever existed or lived a life of heroic virtue. The act of canonization is considered an infallible pronouncement of the pope. For this reason the process of canonization is so long and intense.
