Why would the author of Mark portray the family of Jesus so negatively?

The author of Mark was aware of Christians who had lost their families because of their faith, although we know from other sources that this was not always the case. They may have been disowned by other members, living in communes by choice or as wandering preachers.

I believe that the author of Mark was not so much trying to portray Jesus' family negatively as justify the loneliness that some of Jesus' followers were experiencing. Verses 3:31-35, in which Jesus denies his family because he has a new family, his many followers, justify the verses 10:29-30 which acknowledge that many Christians have also lost families.
