To understand why god was upset at Israel for worshiping Idols you must first understand why Israel was attracted to Idol worship in the first place.
God commanded Israel to be pure and virtuous.
Idol worship involved setting up "Groves". These were places where the children of Israel would gather and take place in pagan style worship.
This involved things such as orgies and other immoral behaviour. Basically this was the olden day version of porno, and this was why Israel kept forsaking God in order to justify their desire to engage in "Idol worship".
God was not jealous that Israel were worshiping statues. He was angry that they were breaking his commandment that they keep themselves pure and virtuous.
The early civilization people worshiped the sun, moon and stars. They also created idols or pagans and worshiped it as God.

Elvis never believed in idols but worshiped, from his earliest memory until the day he died, God/Jesus
The bible does not exactly say which gods that Terah worshipped. We do know that he worshipped idols. Some believe that he worshipped multiple gods and goddesses.
I think they tried to emulate the Romans who were the rulers at the.The Romans worshiped man-made idols (Apollo, Janus, Jupiter etc) or deified their dead Emperors (Augustus, Carus etc) and turned them into god to be worshiped.
"There is a God in Israel." The people of ancient Israel tended to worship one god but thought other gods existed. They were monotheistic. However, some of the people worshiped more than one. It was the 6th century B.C. that Isaiah informed Israel that only one God existed. Israel became monotheistic.

The religion of Israel was a monotheistic religion, meaning that they worshiped one God alone. The other religions of the time worshiped many gods such as sun gods, rain gods, planet-gods, etc.
Before Abraham, the Hebrews didn't worship God; they worshiped idols. But the Torah doesn't give any information about their religious practices.
One View:Asherah was God's wife. or consort. After the first diaspora, when the Jews returned to Israel after being expelled in approximately 585 BC, the priests in the Hebrew Pantheon decided on a monotheistic religion. In other words, there should be only one God. All of the ancient gods were banished, including Asherah. Her name has been variously translated into English as "unending" or "she who walks in the sea". Mention can be found of her in ancient Akkadian and Hittite writings.Another View:Judaism has always been a monotheistic religion. Long before the captivity Israel worshiped one God:Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.2Kings 19:19 Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."Asherah was the name of a goddess whose worship was widely spread throughout Syria and Canaan. In Canaanite religion Asherah was the wife of the war-god Asir, the national god of Assyria. Asherah also referred to idols, some people say Asherah refers to the idols and Ashtoreth to the goddess. When Israel turned away from God and had fallen into idolatry they worshiped the gods of the nations around them, Baal, Ashtoreth. After a remnant of Israel returned from captivity they worshiped one God and were zealous in worshiping one God, until again they fell into idolatry.
