The night of power (Laylatul - Qadr) is the night when Allah revealed the first part of the qura'an unto the prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) would go to a cave on MOUNT HIRA. One day, Angel Jibra'eel came down to Muhammad (SAW). The angel Jibra'eel told him to read but he replied that he couldn't. He was told to read again but he gave the same reply. The third time, he started to read. The angel would help him. On this day, only part of the Qura'an was revealed. I.e. Suratul ALAQ.

Night of Power ( Arabic : Lailat Ul Qadar ), is a night in the Muslim calendar which is one of the holiest nights of Muslims. It is believed to be one of the odd nights in the last ten days of the lunar month of Ramadan.

In this night, the reward for prayer and good deeds is increased millionfold. In some sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, the reward for deeds in this night is multiplied with 40000 months. So it is just like that a single prayer in this night is worth a single prayer every day for 40000 months.

Thus Muslims make great effort to offer prayer in this night.
