Ancient Egyptian art is a complex mixture of artistic convention, religion and symbolism. Often the precise symbolism of certain elements is unknown today, but it was very clear to the original artist and his audience at the time.

The goddess Isis is often shown standing, or sitting on a throne, or kneeling. If she kneels, it is sometimes because of limited space on the surface being painted (such as the upper surface of a doorway) where it would be impossible to fit a standing figure.

At other time Isis kneels to venerate Osiris, or some other major god such as Ra or Atum.
