As He called each disciple He said "follow me." The command is no less binding on Christians today. A Christian is defined by the new birth and following Christ. Christ came to earth having left much of His supernatural trappings in heaven. He lived among us as one of us, in all ways yet without sin. He showed us the way. In fact, the earliest name associated with Christians was "the way." Followers of Christ were of "The way." The name "Christian" came later.

The teachings of Jesus are so important because Jesus was God's son and he came down to earth to save us and not condemn us! Besides he is all powerful.

Love.
= What were Jesus most important teaching? = According to The Bible, Jesus' most important teachings, in my opinion, could be divided into 3 parts. Part 1: That there is ONLY ONE supreme God to be worshiped and that he Jesus was a Prophet sent by God. 1. According to the Bible Jesus gave an emphatic answer to the above in Matthew 22:34-38 - Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: Matthew .2236 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: "'Love (i.e. worship) the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[[http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+22&version=NIV#fen-NIV-23910c#fen-NIV-23910c c]] 38 this is the first and greatest commandment. 2. Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. [Matthew 4:10] 3. Now this is eternal life: that they know YOU, the ONLYTRUE God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (as a Prophet) [John 17:3]. 4. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me (as a Prophet)." [John 11:42] 5. "Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me (as a Prophet)" [Matthew 10:40] Part 2: Love for your neighbour what you love for yourself. This is the second greatest command of the law. * And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself [Matthew 22:39]. Part 3: Sinners must seek forgiveness from God * I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." [Luke 5:32] * Avoid sins but if you commit sins seek forgiveness from God In summary therefore Jesus' most important teachings are: * Worship God alone * Love your neighbour as you love yourself . According to Jesus in the Bible, every single Prophets that have been sent by God brought the above two key messages. * All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." [Matthew 22:40] Wordwiz007 London UK

For the last 2000 years, the evidence is overwhelming that Jesus was God in human form, therefore being a follower of Jesus and belonging to a Christian church is the way to do what Jesus the Christ said was a good way to live, in order to be blessed. There are those who disagree with this answer, but, Jesus were just a man, His beliefs and ideas would have died with Him on the cross.
