Mecca (or Makkah) is one of Muslims holy sites mainly for the following reasons:

  1. The oldest God house on earth (called Kaaba) is located in Mecca
  2. The grandest Islamic mosque (AlMasjid AlHaram) is in Mecca (it surrounds Kaaba). Its capacity is over 4 million Muslims.
  3. It was the place of the God revelation of the first verses of Quran to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
  4. It is the birth place of prophet Muhammad
  5. Makkah (or Mecca) and its vicinities is the place for Muslim pilgrimage (or Hajj)
