Because, if you haven't noticed, it usually works. As long as politics remains partisan no one ever demands more of politicians than to fight the "wrong" people. By making political issues a matter of moral or economic identity (my side vs your side) rather than practical widespread effect, politicians are free to pursue their own agendas safe in the knowledge that their constituency has no interest in most issues except for when they suit up for more cultural battle (name your picket line) in the name of "their side."
Republican politicians pander to social conservatives in order to conceal their pro-corporation and pro-upper-class agendas.
Social equality and a class-less state would achieve equality and freedom for all.

Mainstream America denies class warfare because it is a Marxist concept, and so acknowledging its existence means that more of his theories must be exposed and analyzed. This is a frightening thought to most American capitalists, who thrive on the perpetuation of their amassed capital at the expense of the common worker. Simply put, it has political, economic, and social implications in accepting it as true. Others may just believe that class warfare is unreal, but I would argue against this.
Actually, there is no such thing as social class in a communist society. The idea is that everyone is the same, everyone is equal, no one is higher than another, and is all overlooked by the government. I guess you could say the politicians are more important, but then again, that would cancel out the whole idea of communism.
Writers can belong to various social classes, as their income and status depend on factors such as their success, recognition, and opportunities. Some writers may achieve financial success and belong to the upper class, while others may struggle economically and belong to the middle or lower class. Ultimately, a writer's social class can be fluid and subject to change throughout their career.
Class warfare was the state sanctioned violence against the middle class originally introduced in the period following the Bolshevik rise to power in order for them consolidate their power.
Slave holders were considered the highest of the social class. The only way to achieve upward mobility was to own more slaves.
