A policy of the Gideons is to only allow members to pass out their Bibles. If your group is an approved organization, they will come to pass out Bibles. Look in the phone book to find the number of the Gideons in your area.
It is not a usual practice for The Gideons to pass out Bibles to a Sunday School class.
The Gideons produce Bibles of all sizes, including pocket-sized. The Gideons phone number can be found in telephone directory or online. The books are free or by donation.
A:The US Navy ordered Gideons Bibles removed from military facilities because they linked the military with proselytising, but of course allowed personnel to keep their own Bibles, Korans or other sacred literature. A right-wing backlash forced a policy reversal, so that Gideons Bibles are being "temporarily" returned to Naval accommodation.
The Gideons - a Christian organization - stated in first few pages.
I suggest that you contact the Gideons International association on http://www.gideons.org/Splash.aspx. Click on your region of the world from the list on the left and you will be redirected to your national Gideon centre. If you click on 'Contact Us' you will be able to order a Gideon Bible or Bibles. However, Gideons only tend to give Bibles free in bulk to recognised organisations (hotels, prisons, schools, medical waiting rooms etc) as individuals should be able to afford a single Bible for themselves. Gideons provide Bibles at their own expense or through fundraising, and so this request is perfectly reasonable. The Bible used by the Gideons is usually the King James Version KJV (or the New King James Version NKJV for those who would like a modern translation). Although the New International Version (NIV) was used on the Gideons UK regional Website when quoting Bible texts online (e.g. see http://www.gideons.org.UK/BibleHelps/index.asp), it is not used by the Gideons in the printing of Bibles. If you cannot get a Gideon Bible as an individual, these versions of the Bible can be read for free on www.Biblegateway.com and parts downloaded also for free using 'cut and paste'. The KJV, NKJV and NIV can also be purchased relatively cheaply from all booksellers and from online book stores. Should you specifically want some of the Gideon's own introductions or theme indices from their Bibles, you can obtain these from their website.
The Gideons are a group; a Christian group and not a religion of its own. The Gideons are known for placing Bible's in Hotels for all to use. They are basically a Bible printing and distribution organization.
None! People don't steal Bibles, that's a sin! However, if you do not have one, steal one. Just be sure to read it. The Gideons distribute Bibles in hotels and public places, and consider the theft of Bibles as something of a mixed blessing, as it may be read in the future.
The Gideon's' Organization offers free pocket Bibles for a variety of purposes. This organization has pocket Bibles for soldiers, students, mothers, and more.
