Why did jesus teach us with parables?

Edersheim expands on this when he states in relation to them "They are all occasioned by some unreceptiveness on the part of the hearers, and that, even when the hearers are professing disciples." * Thus, the secret of the parables was most certainly available to all who sincerely sought it with a heart that was right. The spiritual analogy was not for those who did not wish to submit themselves and to follow Jesus as their master and so it remained hidden from them. Their lack of submission and receptiveness was their choice. At other times Jesus spoke plainly enough, as well as through His works.

It was prophesied that the Messiah would teach this way "(Matthew 13:34+5 / Psalm 78:2), so Jesus' use of parables was a fulfillment of prophecy.

ONE reason he did this was so people who would like to understand Jesus could understand his teachings easier(Matthew 13:3-8 + Matthew 13:47 / Mark 4:30)and at the same time, separate those who were not sincerely interested(Matthew 13:10-15). People who were truly interested in understanding what he meant, would ask for explanation(Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43)others would leave confused(1 Corinthians 2:14).

Jesus employed parables in the presence of the crowds of people to "hide the meaning" of what He was saying from them.

Only privately... alone with His disciples... did Jesus clearly explain the parable's meanings.

"...Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; He did not say anything to them without using a parable." (Matt.13:34 NIV)

"...Then He left the crowd and went into the (His) house. His disciples came unto Him and said, 'Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." (verse 36)

Jesus spoke parables to the multitudes so that THEY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND what He was saying. The vast majority of mankind is not yet supposed to understand the Truth of God... but only those whom He is calling during this time dispensation, until He returns with the Kingdom of God.

It is these whom God is calling, teaching and training to obey His voice now who shall co-rule the Kingdom with Christ a thousand years. Then, shall God's Truth be made plain to all the nations of the earth.

"Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years." (Rev.20:6)

Then shall salvation and the healing of the earth and the nations begin wholesale.

"...Then the LORD my God will come, all the holy ones with Him (the saints)... it will be a unique Day, without daytime or nighttime - a Day known to the LORD. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem (an artesian well?)...The LORD will be King over the whole earth. On that Day there will be one LORD, and His name the only name." (Zech.14:5-9 NIV)

God has Children to rear and train for the jobs, offices and positions (mansions) that need filled in His coming Kingdom. And until He has a fully staffed and trained administration with which to rule and teach and heal the nations (His future Family)... the results would be not unlike what happened in Iraq, when the government was toppled, and no organized replacement government was thought out or prepared in any way for the people.

Unlike the Iraq fiasco... the Kingdom of God will not allow the people to reorganize and reestablish their own governments. They will learn to obey the decrees of the King.

"...the God of heaven will set up a Kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever." (Dan.2:44 NIV)

"Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up from year to year (for a thousand years) TO WORSHIP THE KING, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES." (Zech.14:16 NIV)

There's something impossible to imagine... Arabs, Greeks, and all the nations of the world observing what men call the "Jewish" Feast of Tabernacles (which pictures Christ's millennial rule) each year for a thousand years... commanded by the earth's new King, Jesus Christ.

No wonder He spoke in parables. No nation on earth would willingly lay down their sovereign seats of authority and power to allow some outsider to tell them what to do. It's best that they don't know yet. God's Truth would be too upsetting to man's governments if they knew, believed and understood it.

As it is prophesied of the time that Jesus finally does take over Government reins of the earth: "...We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty... because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. THE NATIONS WERE ANGRY; and your wrath has come..." (Rev.11:17-18 NIV).

The world is not yet ready to know God's Truth. Thus, the parables. A study of Jesus' "private parable lessons" found in the Bible, however, would reveal it to those with the eyes to see and the ears to hear. But God has to open those eyes and ears first:

"...Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:45 NIV)

and apply their own common sense to the story. -And, they don't

have to think about the meaning of what he is saying, because they

can just see it from their understanding.

We often do the same thing. In a discussion, we tell a story. Everyone

is relieved, and it's kind of a treat, because human beings like to hear

a story - it takes them away from their own problems, and their own thoughts.

If the story is related to the discussion, it has a point, which is taken as evidence

which supports our discussion. Again, no thinking is required. The story

speaks to our own understanding, not to our mind.
