What is the major conflict in - The Vicar of Wakefield?

The major conflict in The Vicar of Wakefield would be the Vicar and his family vs. society and its falsehoods. Throughout the book the family is tempted to indulge in, and they sometimes actually do sway towards, the frivolous things of this life rather then being unattached and putting more weight on their actual character and morality. The family is continually forced lower and lower in worldly standards until they learn that the pleasures of this life are uniportant in comparison to moral dignity and family love. After this they are able to regain all their worldly pleasures which are then just gravy.
