The Bible tells us that Moses' father was Amran, who lived 137 years, his grandfather was Kohath, who was one of the Hebrews who migrated to Egypt with Jacob, in 1870 BCE , and then lived to 133 years of age, and his great grandfather was Levi, son of Jacob.

Accepting these details as accurate, Moses must have been born sometime between 15 years and 270 years after the arrival in Egypt and therefore died, aged 120 years, at least 40 years before the Exodus from Egypt in 1440 BCE. A:According to the Bible, Moses was the grandson of Kohath. And according to Genesis, Kohath was alive at the time of the migration from Canaan and lived 133 years, while his son Amran, Moses' father, lived 137 years.

A problem that should cast doubt on this genealogy is that even if Kohath and Amran lived to these improbable ages and Moses in turn lived to 120 years, he should have already died before the Exodus from Egypt where the Hebrews spent 430 years (Exodus 12:40-41). This is clearly inconsistent with the Exodusnarrative that follows, where he died more than forty years after the people left Egypt.

Father of Moses?

In Exodus chapter 6 verse 20 it says Amram was his father.AdditionallyExodus 2:1 only says a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman who gave birth to Moses so it is just as likely that Amram was a grandfather or great-grandfather of Moses because the genealogy lists in the scripture often skip generations including only the "great" ancestors and skip many of the "lesser" ancestors. Biblical scholars have argued back and forth on these issues.
