First, let's define "church." In the New Testament the word church comes from the Greek word "ekklesia," which means "assembly." In the book of Leviticus chap. 23:1-44, Yahweh, the God of Israel, set the seven appointed times of Israel. The King James Bible translates them the Feasts of Israel. In these instructions God commands Israel to keep these appointed times, and King James bible calls these meetings "Holy Convocations." The Hebrew word for this is Qodesh Miqra, (pronounced koh-desh meek-raw) and it means holy assembly. In Leviticus 19:1-2 "And The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 'Speak to all the congregation, (that's church) of Israel, and say to them: You shall be holy, for I The LORD your God am holy. So that is what the Christian Church is, a special type of meeting dedicated to worship of God.
In the "Acts of the Apostles" chapter 11 verse 26 we read, "...and the disciples were first called 'Christians,' in Antioch. (Notice it does not name, Baptists, or Presbyterians, or Congregationals, or Lutherans, Methodists, or Quakers, etc,... These church names came later and denote a certain theological following.)
The word "Christian" comes from Christ which means "Anointed." So a christian is one who is a follower of Jesus Christ who was anointed by God with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (Acts 10:38). So we who are Christians are also anointed by God, as followers of Jesus, "in whom also, having believed, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory." Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV)
So, there is no holiest church, or holiest Christian. The whole church has been called to be holy by a Holy God. Each individual Christian has to discover exactly what that means. To me that means to Love the Lord my God, with all my heart, and with all my mind, and with all my strength, (Matthew 22:37) And to do this above all else. I do this by following the great commission of Christ: read the bible, pray, (for others, myself, the church, my country, etc), witness, and go to church.
There are several problems with identifying the "holiest" person in any category.
* The first is that every sect (Catholic, Protestant, Morman etc.) seems to be pulling for its own founder, leader or demi-god. * The second is that there are no measurable criteria (Does saving babies trump spreading the word to savages?) * Thirdly the winner might not be known even to himself. Like the Jewish Tzadikim (38 humble righteous ones) the most holy person might just labour away doing good without fanfare.
