Simon from Cyrene (Matt. 27:32; Mark 15:21).

Little is known of Simon. Many Bible scholars believe that he was likely a Jew who was celebrating the Passover in Jerusalem. He had two sons, Alexander and Rufus.

Cyrene was an important city in North Africa, where Libya is located today. Cyrene had a large Jewish population.

Answer:The gospel accounts name the town this Simon was from, but they do not indicate his "race."

Matthew 27:32 - Now as they came out, they founda man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross. [NKJV]

Cyrene (a Mediterranean coastal city located in what is now Libya) was established as a Greek settlement (circa 630 BC). The region became a Roman territory in 96 BC, and first-century (AD) Cyrene was inhabited by a mixed citizenry, including Jews. Without more detail that scripture simply doesn't provide, any conclusions about the man's specific race are supposition.

Was he a black man who help jesus carry the cross.?

The man who was compelled to bear the cross of Jesus by the Romans was called Simon, of Cyrene[Matthew 27:32]. Cyrene was, and possibly still is, a town in Libya where at the time a large Jewish settlement existed. Jews from this area were in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost[Acts 2:10]. There appears to be no hard evidence to say what the colour of Simon's skin was. Wikipedia has a comprehensive write up about the story.>
