A:Only Matthew's Gospel mentions the magi coming to worship Jesus. They were necessary in this nativity account, to explain the family fleeing from Bethlehem to Egypt and, years later, migrating to Nazareth in Galilee. John Shelby Spong (Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus) says that among people he knows in New Testament circles, the universal assumption is that the magi were not actual people, and that Matthew was simply writing Christian midrash. We can therefore assume that the author of Luke's Gospel knew nothing at all of the magi.
