The entire Bible is a "Middle Eastern" book, that reveals the beginnings of the Hebrew people in Genesis... the thread of which runs throughout... unto their end time prophetic role in God's plan for the salvation of all the nations on earth.
"And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel." (Rev.7:4)
Prophecy is merely "history, written in advance."
"...he carried me away in the Spirit... and shewed me that Great City, the Holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God... and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel..." (Rev.21:10-12).
This "Israeli history" is yet to be fulfilled... but it's found in the last book of The Bible.
So, Israeli history is found everywhere in the Bible... including the advent of Jesus Christ... and their "history" yet to be witnessed by the world. Speaking to His disciples of His coming Kingdom... Jesus says:
"...Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration [a future prophesied resurrection] when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His Glory, ye shall sit also upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matt.19:28)
The history of Israel is discussed in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings and 1 & 2 Chronicles.
1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees actually are in the Catholic Bible, and can be read there. However, they were not accepted in the Hebrew Bible and are not in the Protestant Bible. One problem with the two books of Maccabees is that, although they were written around the same time and deal with the same period in Judean history, they are too much at variance as to what really happened. Moreover, 1 Maccabees is not really a religious document, while 2 Maccabees is considered by many to be simply too unrealistic to be taken seriously.
