In the Catholic Answers forum thread on dress for first Holy Communion, there were a number of things listed, and this was mentioned as one:
The traditional practice of wearing a white arm band bow on the left arm has been restored and is required for each boy.
Red is symbolic of two things: 1. The Holy Spirit (who appeared as tongues of flame on the disciples on Pentecost). 2. The Precious Blood of Jesus, which is received in the form of wine at Communion. Boys may wear a red sash at their First Holy Communion (so everyone can see it's their First Communion), but when they receive Communion on subsequent occasions, they just wear regular clothes.
This depends. Some wear armbands to stop the sweat from dripping down their hands, wear it to look cool... and lastly, some wear armbands to protect their arm from rubbing/sticking against the bass.
No.
White
Black armbands used to be warn during mourning, but they are rare now.

Girls do not wear diapers for communion. It is common for girls who have recently made their first communion in the Catholic Church to wear a white dress or outfit, symbolizing purity and their commitment to their faith.
