Quakers, or members of the Religious Society of Friends, are found throughout the English-speaking world and in many other countries as well. There are many Friends living in eastern Indiana, USA, near the city of Richmond. A Quaker-based university, Earlham College, is located there.
Sidwell Friends School, also related to the Quakers, a private elementary and secondary school, is located in Washington, DC. It is well known and highly respected, and the children of many non-Quaker Washington personalities attend it.

British. It was settled by William Penn who was given a land grant by the king to settle a debt he had with Penn's father. Penn was glad to leave England since he was a Quaker and was arrested and jailed for his beliefs.
One reason is that North Carolina has held onto its morals and it's religious beliefs tighter than some other states. However, as more people move into and settle in NC the values are slowly degrading. I live here and I am watching it happen. No matter who tries to change the religious beliefs here, as for me and my house, we will seve the Lord.
Their attitude was extreme. They did not welcome people of other religious beliefs. In fact, their laws were based on their interpretations of the Old Testament and they did not allow people of other beliefs to settle in their towns. In fact, not believing in their god was grounds for execution. The Puritans left their homes to come to the New World for their own religious freedom not to extend freedom of religion to others.
