Achilles even gives a speech to Breseis with his philosophy on the gods. Some of the events in the Illiad where the gods interfered with the events were re-done by Peterson. The scene where Paris battles Menelaus for example: Paris is suppose to be surrounded in a cloud of fog by Aphrodite and swooped to safety. Peterson tweaked the scene to have Hector save his brother instead of Aphrodite. At times like that just think in your head that Aphrodite spoke to Hector to save him. The gods have influence but the audience just does not see it.
