This is spoken of a number of times in The Bible, though the 'fog' you refer to, is the cloud of the glory of the Lord in the Bible.
Here are two references -
And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD's house. (2 Chronicles7.2)
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. (1 Kings.8.10,11)
You might be thinking of Revelation 15:8 where the temple was filled with smoke when the angels of the temple came out with the 7 plagues.
The gods were not physically depicted but their influence was still presented. The Trojans allegance to Apollo with their temple and aurors. Achilles even gives a speech to Breseis with his philosophy on the gods. Some of the events in the Illiad where the gods interfered with the events were re-done by Peterson. The scene where Paris battles Menelaus for example: Paris is suppose to be surrounded in a cloud of fog by Aphrodite and swooped to safety. Peterson tweaked the scene to have Hector save his brother instead of Aphrodite. At times like that just think in your head that Aphrodite spoke to Hector to save him. The gods have influence but the audience just does not see it.

Well according to umich.edu, Fog means: "Fog illustrates obscurity, indistinction; in the Bible, it is an image preceding great revelations. It is the "GRAY zone" between reality and unreality, and uncertainty about the future and beyond. According to Browning it can represent approaching death. Isolation. A transformation into the unreal." I personally always looked at "fog" symbolism as being lost and confused. I'm willing to think that a good writer can give to this fenomena any abstract meaning if done correctly.
fog = Nebel fog = Schleier (figurative)
The adjective form of "fog" is "foggy."
