A:

Mother Theresa sought medical treatment for herself at renowned medical clinics in the United States, Europe, and India, drawing charges of hypocrisy for the contrast to the conditions at her homes and her stated views on suffering.

Meg Greene (Mother Teresa: A Biography) says although it appeared that the poor in the facilities that the Missionaries of Charity operated could not receive even basic treatment, Mother Teresa herself had access to the most modern medical treatment in the world, especially when her heart problems came to light.

What should Mother Teresa be remembered for?

A:It is the wish of the Catholic Church that Mother Teresa be remembered for the good work she did among the poor of Calcutta and elsewhere. Inevitably, however, Mother Teresa will be remembered as a more complex person than that simple depiction of a selfless saint. Mother Theresa sought medical treatment for herself at renowned medical clinics in the United States, Europe, and India although, according to Meg Greene (Mother Teresa: A Biography), the poor in the facilities that the Missionaries of Charity operated could not receive even basic treatment. Mother Teresa dedicated her life to the Church, but this had its limits.
