Matthew 26:57 says that after jesus was arrested they took him away to Caiphas first.
John 28:13 says that after Jesus was arrested they took him away to Annas first.
After Jesus was examined by either Caiphas (Luke 26) or by Annas (John 28), He was then brought to the Sanhedrin. After the Sanhedrin, Jesus was brought to Pontius Pilate. After Pontius Pilate, Jesus was taken to Herod, tetrarch off Galilee, who was attending the Passover at Jerusalem.

The New Testament says that Jesus was taken to the high priest Annas who then sent him to the high priest Caiaphas. He was then sent to Pontius Pilate to be prosecuted for claiming to be the King of Jews.
No, Pontius Pilate was the Roman Procurator of Judea. (Like a governor). It was his job to keep the peace between Rome and Judea. Pilate was the authority in Judea, even over the High Priests except in religious matters. When Jesus was brought to the Jewish leaders He was taken first to Annas. Annas had been the High Priest from A.D. 6 to A.D. 15. Then Jesus was taken to Caiaphas the current High Priest and son-in-law to Annas.
A:In the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke), Jesus wassent to be tried by the Sanhedrin, the Jewish religious court, consisting of the high priest, all the chief priests and the elders and scribes (Mark 14:33). They tried him and then, in the morning, led him to be tried by the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. The author of John's Gospel knew that the Sanhedrin would never meet in the middle of the night to try Jesus. In this account, Jesus was led to the house of Annas, father-in-law to Caiaphas, the high priest John 18:13). Annas interrogated Jesus and then sent him to the house of Caiaphas (John 18:24). He was then taken to the hall of judgement to be tried by Pontius Pilate (John 18:28).
The father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest during the time of Jesus, was Annas. Annas had served as high priest before Caiaphas and still held influence within the priesthood.
Jeff Fenholtas Jesus, Ben Vereen as Judas and Bob Bingham as Caiaphas. Barry Dennen, Pontius Pilate Yvonne Elliman, the original Mary Magdalene, was also a part of the cast. Kurt Yaghjian sang Annas.
Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas. He is mentioned in the Bible at:Luke 3:2 "Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness."John 18:13 "And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. "John 18:24 "Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest."Acts 4:6 "And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem."
Jesus was taken to the Sanhedrin after his arrest because the Jewish religious leaders wanted to question him about his teachings and perceived blasphemous claims. They sought to find evidence to charge him with crimes punishable by Roman law.
The synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) say that they took Jesus to the Sanhedrin for trial at 3:00 o'clock in the morning, then to Pontius Pilate at 6:00 o'clock. After his trial, he was taken to Calvary for crucifixion and placed on the cross at 9:00 o'clock.John's Gospel is in basic agreement, but the author recognised that the Sanhedrin would never have met during hours of darkness to try Jesus, resolving this by eliminating the first trial and merely having Jesus taken separately before Annas and then Caiaphas, before being taken to Pontius Pilate.
Joseph Caiaphas (Luke 3:2), a Sadducee(Acts 5:17) was the son-in-law of High Priest Annas (John 18:13)(Luke 2:42-49), a wealthy and powerful family from the tribe of Levi. Annas was removed as High Priest, and replaced with Caiaphas, by Valerius Gratus, the predecessor of Pontius Pilate, starting sometime between 18-26 C.E.to 36 C.E.He and Pilate were reportedly good friends.Much of their wealth came, reportedly, through the selling of sacrifices within the temple grounds, which is undoubtedly one reason they tried to kill Jesus, when he twice cleansed the temple, which they had made "a cave of robbers." (John 2:13-16; Matthew 21:12, 13; Mark 11:15-17; Luke 19:45, 46)
A:In the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke), Jesus was tried before the Sanhedrin, or Jewish religious court, then taken to Pontius Pilate for trial before the Roman governor. The author of John's Gospel realised that the Sanhedrin would never have sat during the hours of darkness to try Jesus, so had Jesus taken to the house of Annas (John 18:13), who interrogated Jesus and then sent him to the house of his son-in-law Caiaphas (John 18:24), and then Jesus was taken to the hall of judgement to be tried by Pontius Pilate.
A:Annas was a popular high priest whom the Romans dismissed in favour of his son-in-law, Caiaphas. Because of his popularity, many Jews still deferred to Annas as a high priest, while being required to accept Caiaphas as the official high priest.
