Taoism originated in China. Modern Taoism was created by the scholar Lao Tzu in his book the Tao Te Ching, but Lao Tzu considered by some to be a mythological figure. Tao itself is an ancient Chinese idea, out-dating Taoism as we know it.

"Taoism originate from?" This phrasing suggests a desire to know the predecessor of Taoism, and that would be the same predecessor of all religions. All known religions and Spiritual movements began with a "God-Man". That is, a Soul that incarnated specifically to be awakened at some point in his or her physical life to the fact that his or her Soul came into the physical plane specifically to provide resonant stimulation to those Souls that were "ready" to awaken to "bits" of Knowledge from within themselves.
Such Souls are typically called Saints or Masters, and at some point they are "initiated" by another "God-Man" and at that point they are transformed into a Saint or Master and spend the rest of their life teaching or stimulating the awakening of Souls to their Spirituality. Certain Souls are "initiated" by such "God-Realized Souls]" and those Souls fortunate enough to be thus initiated will, within four lifetimes be taken Home to God.
So Taoism came to Lao Tsu, via his being initiated by some Saint or Master, and he in turn spent his life teaching the Chinese perspective of the Path to God Realization. Various Saints and Masters from around the world all come to this awakening in the same way. For Christ it was John the Baptist.
