In the first creation story (Genesis 1:1-2:4a - the first sentence of verse 2:4), man (both male and female) was created to have dominion over every living creature (Genesis 1:28). However, in the second creation story (Genesis 2:4b-2:20), Adam was created to be the servant of the earth. Since Adam belongs in the second story, his responsibility is one of servant, not one of dominion.
Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) emphasises the independence of the two creation stories and says we must scrupulously avoid reading into the second story any facts or notions taken from the first, and vice versa. Thus, in reading about the origin of Adam, we must not say or even think that man is to be the ruler over the animals.

Eve was made from Adams rib for the simple fact it is of his own flesh and bone, Eve was created to be a "Suitable helper" for Adam Whilst this can be misconstrewed many ways it is simply explained as Adam and Eve were of the same flesh and same creator
My answer is that Eve was a help mate to Adam, being she was place here to help Adam in whatever ways he needed help.
The Bible suggests that we are caretakers of the earth. In Genesis, Adam (the hebrew work for man) is told to dress the earth and keep it. In the book Leviticus, there are several laws that say that we must let the earth have it's seasons. The law of the Jubilees is an ideal crop rotation schedule. The laws of the trees in that book also give practical ways to make sure that trees develop properly for fruit bearing. In war, the nation of Israel is directed NOT to cut down fruit bearing trees in retribution on their enemies. In all ways, the Bible plainly tells us to be caretakers of the earth, not rapists.
