After Islam began in the 600s, life for women actually improved in contrast to other societies of the time. The Qur'an declared the equality of men and women before Allah. It allowed women to control their personal money and property after marriage and also declared the man's obligation to provide for his wife. Women were in charge of the children and the home.
Cultures and traditions are the 1st factor affecting women's status in Muslim society, if you look through every Muslim country, you'll find wom en act and ress differently, the best and decent way of dressing was expressed in religion by three words: not exposing the body (ie, covering the whole body except face and hands), not showing the body contour, and not remarkable.

Women had a different position in society during those times. It wasnt like it is now. Women were looked down on.
