If you are referring to The Holy Bible , the 'people' are the three wise men from far east. A bright star guided them all the way to the stable where baby Jesus was conceived. Those wise men were probably good in astronomy. They claimed " a new star is born" i.e, baby Jesus.
We celebrate December 25th as the day when the wise men visited the baby Jesus.
