Mosques are Muslim houses of worship. In Muslim cities, there are many palaces and mosques. Mosques may serve as schools, courts, and centers of learning. Every mosques have a dome, minarets, a courtyard, and a well.

Inside a dome, is a wall that faces the holy site of Makkah. Muslims pray facing this direction. (or can be spelled as Mecca) In the middle of Makkah is the Kaaba. It is a low square building surrounded by gods and goddesses. Arabs believed that the great stone inside the Kaaba, is from heaven.

Domes top many of the mosques, but a mosque's mosting striking feature is its minarets. These large towers from which a crier, or announcer, calls believers to prayer five times a day.

The courtyard is a huge yard in the middle of the mosques, where worshippers gather for prayers.

Every mosque has a well or fountain at which worshippers can wash their faces, arms, hands, and feet to show respect for God.

In a mosque, you will find people praying, reading the Qur'an, carpets covering the entire prayer area because Muslims remove their shoes at the door, classrooms, bathrooms where Muslims perform the obligatory ablution (washing of face, hands, arms, head, ears, mouth, feet) before praying, library, kitchen, and happy worshippers during the Islamic celebrations such as Eid-ul-Fitr (end of fasting month of Ramadan) and Eid-ul-Adha, weddings, etc.

A mosque is a large building containing a big space for Muslims to stand in lines and do the 5 daily prayers together.

Mosques are furnished with carpet as muslims have to bow first then to make Sujood "put the forehead on the ground" during their prayers.

Also Masjids contain cabinets to keep copies of the holy Quran and other books mainly Islamic books about Islam.

Large rooms built for prayer in congregation, copies of the Holy Qur'an, rosary beads for prayers and bathroom facilities.
