Any piece of land that the Lords sends His people to stay for a while. The Promised Land for the Jews, which will be their final home, has always been Israel or Palestine as it is called now.
The part of Palestine they occupy at present is but a small portion of what they will finally own. Their homeland will stretch from the borders of Egypt to at least 100 miles past Damascus. IT will be 100 miles at it widest boarder.
Answer:
The "Promised Land" is the "material" portion of the two-fold agreement [covenant] that God made with Abraham. The "spiritual" portion was that "all the families of the earth would be blessed" through Abraham by his faith [better known as "salvation in Christ"].
God sent Abraham to Canaan and established this region for the inheritance of his descendants.
However... through the eventual salvation of all the nations of the world through Christ... the tiny tract of land in the Middle East becomes too small to handle the population of many generations of mankind.
"...I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore..." (Gen.22:17).
So the ultimate expanse of the "Promised Land" is described this way in The Bible:
"...For the Promise, that he should be THE HEIR OF THE WORLD, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith." (Rom.4:13)
And for all that... even the world could not contain all the generations that number as the stars of heaven and the sand in the sea. In the end, therefore, the "entire universe" becomes the inheritance of "God's Children"... the recipients of His salvation.
"He that overcometh shall INHERIT ALL THINGS; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son." (Rev.21:7)
"All things" means "everything that is"... and must include "the universe"... or it becomes meaningless.
We are told that Jesus has been: "...appointed Heir of ALL THINGS..." (Heb.1:2).
He has inherited all of His Father's possessions. And since His Father owns the universe and everything in it -- Jesus has inherited the universe.
And as His "brothers" [God's Children]... those who shall receive the Promised "blessing" of "salvation" shall also inherit the universe with Christ.
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the CHILDREN OF GOD: and if Children, then Heirs; Heirs of God, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we MAY BE ALSO GLORIFIED TOGETHER." (Rom.8:16-17)
The Land Promised to Abraham and his children far exceeds what most men have not even begun to imagine. There is "land" out there in space... untold planets... that is the number of the "stars of heaven"... that is the number of Abraham's "faithful" seed.
"Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham... And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and HEIRS according to thePromise." (Gal.3:7 & 29)
"...these Words are TRUE and FAITHFUL... He that overcometh shall INHERIT ALL THINGS; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son." (Rev.21:5-7)
The "Promised Land" is "the universe."
The Land of Canaan called the land flowing with 'milk and honey' - a metaphor generally accepted to mean a land of all good things. Today it is primarily the nation state of Israel:
Exodus 3:17New International Version (NIV)
17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites-a land flowing with milk and honey.'
Another perspective:
The term "Promised Land" takes on whole new parameters when "Faith" is introduced into the biblical equation.
While the "land of Canaan" is mentioned repeatedly regarding the inheritance of the immediate "blood descendants" of Abraham [the twelve nation-tribes of his grandson, Jacob] -- when the "second Spiritual part" of God's Promise to Abraham is figured in [the Promise of SALVATION through Jesus Christ through FAITH; God's "blessing of ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH;" all the nations on earth - Gen.12:3]... borderlines suddenly disappear.
These "Faithful Children" who become "adopted into father Abraham's family," not through his blood, but by FAITH IN THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, are said to number as the "stars in the sky" and "as the number of grains of sand on the seashore" [Gen.15:5 & 22:17].
"The REAL children of Abraham, then, are all those who put their Faith in God. What's more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would accept the Gentiles, too, on the basis of their FAITH. God Promised this Good News to Abraham long ago when He said, 'All nations will be Blessed though you.' And so it is: All who put their Faith in Christ share the same Blessing Abraham received because of his Faith." (Gal.3:7-9 NLT New Living Translation)
"And now that you belong to Christ, you are the TRUE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM. You are his heirs, and now all the Promises God gave to him [LAND and SALVATION] belong to you." (verse 29)
With this shocking biblical news... suddenly, the tiny stretch of land called "Canaan" becomes grossly inadequate to hold all the generations of the families of the earth that have lived and died since Adam.
So it is, then, that the "LAND" that God Promises Abraham's "Faithful" descendants as their inheritance, ultimately becomes the UNIVERSE. And it begins, like a tiny grain of Mustard Seed in the LAND of Canaan, only to grow and expand across the length and breadth of Canaan's planet -- the LANDcalled EARTH!
"It is clear, then, that God's Promise to GIVE THE WHOLE EARTH TO ABRAHAM and his [Faithful] descendants was not based on obedience to God's Law, but on the new relationship with God that comes by FAITH." (Rom.4:13 NLT)
"God blesses those who are gentle and lowly, for THE WHOLE EARTH WILL BELONG TO THEM." (Matt.5:5 NLT)
"...The WHOLE WORLD has now become the Kingdom of our LORD and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever." (Rev.11:15 NLT)
As fertile as man's imagination may be... few people seem to know about, or are able to believe what is written in the Bible regarding the "LAND" that God Promised Abraham and his Faithful children.
The seed of the Promise was planted in the LAND of Canaan... the LAND surrounding Jerusalem, the apple of God's eye [Zech.2:8]... and the future throne of God's Kingdom on earth. Jerusalem, in the midst of the Land of Canaan is the focal point from which the Bible looks out on the world... and the planets beyond. The "Promised Land" begins there... but the Promises of God and all the LAND He has made, stretches out into the limitless universe, which few people on earth suspect that they shall one day inherit.
Most people don't realize that Jesus Christ has already inherited "all things" [the Universe]; His Birthright, being the Firstborn Son of His Father, inheriting all of His Father's possessions [which is, again, the Universe]:
"...in these final days, He [the Father in heaven] has spoken to us through His Son. God promised EVERYTHING to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son He MADE THE UNIVERSE and everything in it." (Heb.1:2 NLTNew Living Translation)
[same verse; Weymouth's New Testament - WEY]: "God... has at the end of these days spoken to us through a Son, who is the pre-destined Lord of the Universe, and through whom He made the Ages."
It is the Son of God, who has inherited the Universe, who shall SHARE HIS INHERITANCE with all the other FAITHFUL CHILDREN OF HIS FATHER! [beginning with God's Promise to the father of the Faithful, Abraham]
The "Promised Land."
"For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that WE ARE GOD's CHILDREN. And since we are His Children, we will SHARE HIS TREASURES - for everything God gives His Son, Christ, IS OURS, TOO. But if we are to share His Glory, we must also share His suffering. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the Glory He will give us later. For ALL CREATION IS WAITING [the whole universe] eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who His Children really are." (Rom.8:16-19 NLT)
In this world where Faith is at a spiritual premium, few people suspect that the "Promised Land" is ultimately known in the Bible as the "Universe."
"...when I, the Son of Man, return, how many will I find who have FAITH?" (Luke 8:8 NLT)
It was Joshua who sent the spies.
Here Joshua sent the spies and not Moses. The reason was there were giants in the land where Caleb spied on.
God sent Moses to lead them out of Egypt and in to the promised land.
Caleb or Kaleb means 'dog' in Hebrew. Caleb was one of the spies sent into the Promised Land by Moses.
moses sent Jacob to lead "his people" to the promise land.luv ya!
Moses was supposed to tell the Israelites that God had sent him to lead them out of slavery in Egypt and to the promised land. He was to convey God's message of deliverance and provide instructions for their journey and obedience to God's commands.
because they were faithful and believed God would allow them to occupy the land when they were sent in by Moses to spy out the land; the other spies said it wasn't possible and were afraid of the people inhabiting the land.
Numbers 13. Here, according to God's commandment, Moses sent out twelve men from the twelve tribes of Israel to spy out the promised land.
Num:13:16: These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
Yes, in the Bible, Caleb was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to scout the land of Canaan. As a reward for his faithfulness and courage, God promised Caleb and his descendants a portion of the land as their inheritance.
12, One from each Family/Tribe No spies were sent into Egypt, but you are probably referring to the sending of the spies into Canaan, which was the Promised Land. There were indeed twelve.
After the children of Israel came out of Egypt God led them to the 'promised land'. Moses sent spies into the promised land to find out about the inhabitants. Ten of the twelve spies said the land could not be conquered and the Israelites were afraid and didn't want to go into the land. Because of their fear and unbelief God said they would wander in the wilderness for forty years until another generation had grown up. After forty years the new generation reached the borders of the promised land again and crossed into the promised land.
