Roman Catholic AnswerThe greatest feast of the liturgical year is Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ raising from the dead and the completion of His great sacrifice to effect our salvation.

The greatest feast is considered to be Pentecost which marks the birth of the Church. Without the descent of the Holy Spirit, the Church would have died out or never really had a start. Easter would follow closely followed by Christmas

I have always been taught that Pentecost Sunday is the most important feast of the year. It is the birthday of the Church and celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles that stimulated them to come out of hiding and begin preaching the Gospel. If Pentecost had never happened, the Church would have died before it started. Easter and Christmas, in that order, are the second and third most important feasts.

Some say Easter is the most important. Others say that the most important feast is Pentecost. Were it not for the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Church would have quickly died and both Christmas and Easter would have become meaningless.
