We believe that Jehovah, (God) created the earth, solar system, universe, and us. We also believe that Jesus is not God, but is his son. We fallow The Bible and what it says, we believe that it's God's word, like a letter from Jehovah himself. Charles Taze Russell (first President of the Watchtower Society)* was raised as a Presybyterian and later associated with the Congregational Church. His frustration in not finding them in the established churches lead him to eventually undertake an independent study of the bible with some close associates from 1870 - 1875. While he collaborated briefly with Nelson Homer Barbour, (1824-1908) a "Millerite" Adventist who agreed with him on the invisible nature of Christ's return to produce the journal "Herald of the Morning from 1876-1878, Russell was never himself adhered to the traditional beliefs of mainstream Adventist, notably in the physical return of Christ to earth.

While central to his belief system was the idea of progressive understanding of divine truth through the study of the bible, meant his beliefs underwent considerable change throughout his ministry, Russells beliefs can broadly be classified as "restorationist" in that he believed that it was necessary to reestablish a system of worship that reflected the first century bible model, something that the established churches had failed to do. He thus believed in a break with Church tradition in favour of what he perceived to be bible truths. He wrote in Volume I of Millennial Dawn:

"We believe it to be a common failing of the present and all times for men to believe certain doctrines because others did so, in whom they had confidence. . . . Truth-seekers should empty their vessels of the muddy waters of tradition and fill them at the fountain of truth-God's Word."

From the beginning Russell held that the eternal torture of the wicked in hellfire was unbiblical and rejected the teaching of the immortality of the soul, he believed that public preaching and teaching of the gospel was a responsibility of all Christians and held that this work would culminate in 1914with what he called the "end of the gentile times" which would mark an period of world turmoil.

*Jehovah's Witnesses do not view Russell as their "founder" or a Prophet but a Minister in a position of leadership during the early days of their modern day organization.

Family belief as a Jehovah's Witness?

There is no such thing as "family belief as a Jehovah witness." Each individual person, young or old, single or married, either inside or outside one's immediate family, must make their own decisions regarding his or her personal relationship with Jehovah God. And certainly, it is not uncommon to have families who are not in religious harmony. So, is this a question or a statement?
