God gives second chances.
Short version of the story:
The story is about Jonah being told by God to go to Nineveh, which, at the time, was the enemy of the Israelites (as Jews should properly be called). Jonah was an Israelite, and he thought that if he went, he would be killed. So instead, he set sail for Tarsus. God sent up a storm while he was on the way, and Jonah was thrown into the ocean.
A big fish swallowed him up, and he stayed in its belly for 3 days and nights. He prayed for that whole time, and God commanded the fish to spit him up. Jonah went on to Nineveh to preach, and they repented. Because they repented, God didn't destroy the town.
When the bible talks about Jonah and the big fish, it is in the book Jonah in the old testament.
"Jonah and the Fish" = Yonah vehadag (יונה והדג)
Jonah
Marlin and Dory were trapped in a whale, just as Jonah was trapped in a big fish.
The account (story) of Jonah and the big fish originated from the Jewish religion. It is now part of the Bible and the Koran.
Jonah stayed in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights according to the Bible.
Jonah was in the stomach of a 'great fish' - assumed by many to be a whale - for three days and three nights.
Jonah was wrapped in the belly of a big fish.
Jonah was in the belly of the big fish for three days and three nights before being vomited out onto dry land.
"Jonah and the Big Fish" is a biblical story found in the Book of Jonah in the Old Testament. It is a religious story that is often classified as a religious or spiritual narrative rather than a specific literary genre.
No. The stories have completely different themes.
It was not a whale. The book of Jonah clearly staes that Jonah was swallowed by a big fish, and a whale is not a fish. We are not told what sort of fish it was. It is quite conceivable that, for the time frame that the story was written in, it could have been likely that the "big fish" was in fact a whale. To many people, scientific classification and terms did not apply, and even though a whale is indeed a mammal, it swims and lives in the ocean, which could have possibly led many to believe that it was a big fish.
