It must be remembered that people in those days wore openwork sandals, if anything, and that their feet became dirty with the dust and dirt of the streets and unfloored houses. There are several Biblical references to the cleaning of feet. Having clean feet was a sign of high status and/or holiness. Only the temples and palaces would have had clean floors.

Both Zechariah and Revelation belong to a genre known as Jewish apocalyptic literature, but the passage in Revelation 6:1-8 is an obvious elaboration of the corresponding passage in Zechariah. If there were any doubt, this would demonstrate that Revelation was written later than the Book of Zechariah.
