Two things are must in a Gurdwara: 1. Sri Guru Granth Sahib. ( There must be "Prakash" of Guru Granth Sahib as per the procedure described in "Sikh Rehat Maryada") 2. Nishaan Sahib ( A saffron (Basanti ) or Dark Blue ( Surmai ) color Flag.) Without any of these, No place can be considered as a Gurdwara.
when you go to the gurudwara you will see the nishan sahib( flag pole) with the Khanda on it. When you enter the women are sitting on the left side and men on the right side with their heads covered. Also you see the Guru Granth Sahib with a guy waving the Chaur. You'll see people bowing to it and offer money in the Golak. The book is cover with a Rumalla and small pillows. there is a palki on top of the palki is a Chanai. there are also people singing sikh hymns. At the end everyone stands up for ardas and last everyone goes to have langar at the langar hall.
In a gurudwara you might find a large hall for eating. This is called langar, a communal meal, eaten together with all the people You might also find a room for men, women, and children to put their shoes away. We do this because it is a way to show respect to God and the other people. You might find a bigger hall than the langar hall; this hall is for praying and listening to the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book. When you enter this hall your head should be covered and your shoes should be taken off. When you enter you should go all the way up front to bow your head and touch the ground with your head, then you should go and find a place to sit and listen. Men and women sit separately; the children sit with their mothers or fathers.
