Tefillin are a set of two black boxes, made from animal hide, that a Jewish man wears for the morning prayer service. These boxes contain pieces of parchment with sections of the Scripture inside them. Each of the boxes has a black, leather strap, which allows the wearer to tie them to his left arm (the box sits on the bicep, and the straps are wound down the arm and hand) and head (the box sits just above the forehead).
