The Holy City, "New Jerusalem" is a provocative name used only two times in the book of Revelation, which shoots in the foot the modern professing Christian notion of "going to heaven" [the religious belief of living on in death in some form or other, in some place or other, that's common in some concept or other in most of the religions in the world].

Rather than The Bible teaching that "good and bad" people alike "die [yet, don't really die; but live on eternally] and go to a heaven or hell" as modern professing Christianity preaches [as well as other religions] -- the Bible's mention of the Holy City, New Jerusalem: the dwelling place of the Father in heaven, reveals that this particular religious belief is in error... and that HEAVEN IS COMING TO EARTH!

"I will make him who conquers a pillar in the Temple of My God, and he shall never again go out of it. I will write on him the Name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, WHICH IS COMING DOWN OUT OF HEAVEN FROM MY GOD, and My own New Name. Let everyone who has ears listen to what the Spirit says to the churches." (Rev.3:12-13 WNT William's New Testament)

The ultimate fulfillment of this "unbelievable" prophecy... so unbelievable that modern professing Christianity doesn't even believe it, preach it, or teach it... manifests itself following the final phase of God's plan of the Salvation of mankind; Judgment Day, at the conclusion of Revelation's 20th chapter. Chapter 21 begins with:

"Then I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth, for the first heaven and the first earth [the one upon which we all now reside] had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. And I saw the NEW JERUSALEM, the Holy City, COMING DOWN OUT OF HEAVEN FROM GOD, made ready like a bride to join her Husband. Then I heard a loud voice from the Throne say, 'See! GOD'S DWELLING PLACE [tabernacle] IS WITH MEN, and HE [God the Father] WILL LIVE [tabernacle] WITH THEM." (Rev.21:1-3 MNT)

That's what the Bible literally says about "New Jerusalem." Although there are allusions to this Holy City in other passages without using this formal name.

"You have not come to physical Mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and a whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai when God gave them His Laws. For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice with a message so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking. They staggered back under God's Command: 'If even an animal touches the Mountain, it must be stoned to death.' Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, 'I am terrified and trembling.' No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the CITY OF THE LIVING GOD, THE HEAVENLY JERUSALEM, and to thousands of angels in Joyful assembly.

"You have come to the assembly of GOD'S FIRSTBORN CHILDREN, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to GOD HIMSELF, who is the Judge of ALL PEOPLE. And you have come to the spirits of the redeemed in heaven who have now been made Perfect. You have come to Jesus, the One who Mediates the New Covenant between God [the Father] and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which graciously forgives instead of crying out for vengeance as the blood of Abel did.

"See to it that YOU OBEY GOD, the One who is speaking to you. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, how terrible our danger if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!

"When God spoke from Mount Sinai His voice shook the earth, but now He makes another Promise: 'Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.' This means that the things on earth will be shaken, so that only Eternal things will be left. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be destroyed, let us be thankful and please God by WORSHIPING HIM WITH HOLY FEAR AND AWE. For our God is a CONSUMING FIRE [see again 'Judgment Day' at the conclusion of Rev.20]." (Heb.12:18-29 NLT New Living Translation)

The Holy City, New Jerusalem is coming down out of heaven, to the New Earth [heaven is coming to man... and man is not going to heaven - see Jesus' plain Words; John 3:13]. It's a monumental future event about which few people seem to be aware... and about which fewer people believe.
