What does it mean to praise god?

The Bible is composed of "words" that are found in most dictionaries. While some of its words may be antiquated and not found in some dictionaries... the vast majority of them are.

If the words you read in the Bible don't mean what the dictionary says they mean in your heart and mind... just as the words you read in any other book are taken at "face value" -- the Bible [or any other book] quickly becomes a useless compilation of meaningless words.

And no word, anywhere, will be understood.

"Glorify" means in the Bible the way any dictionary defines it... applying multiple meaning word definitions of any given word, according to its usage.

The dictionary says "glorify" is a transitive verb; "To give glory, honor and praise to: to exalt."

Romans 8:16-17 is a wonderful passage about God's Children inheriting all things "jointly" with Jesus Christ [God's Firstborn Son]:

"...if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together." (verse 17)

Strong's Definitions says the definition of this "inspired word grouping" is:

"sundoxazo" (soon-dox-ad'-zo): "to exalt to dignity in company with...".

The picture the Bible paints is that "man is lower than the angels"... and far beneath the dignity of his Creator. Yet, God gave man the earth to rule for a period of time... to live and to gain experience in how to live [as well as how not to].

The picture the Bible paints is one of "promise" [Divine potential] for mankind... but until the picture is finished by God... man cannot achieve the "exaltation" [the glorification] of which the Bible speaks.

Mankind shall one day be "changed" [I Cor.15:51] into the "Sons of God" -- be born into God's Family and become God's Immortal Children.

Man's finite mind with all of its imagination balks at this kind of "glorification." Most refuse to believe it.

But this future "glorification" of man has always been there for any with the heart and mind to accept it.

By the Grace of God -- man was created to become God's Family... His Sons and Daughters... His Children:

"...WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD..." (Rom.8:16); in the simplest of dictionary words... that's what the Bible says. And it means just that.

Yet, the vast majority of mankind just doesn't "get it." They just can't imagine, as we wallow in the filthy sins of this world, being "glorified" with Christ -- being "exalted to dignity in company with Christ."

But, that's what the Bible says "glorify" means... exactly what the dictionary says it means. To give honor and praise; to exalt [to raise someone up in rank, position and esteem].

Jesus told His lowly apostles, and they died knowing what their "glory" was to one day be:

"...Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration [resurrection from the dead] when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His GLORY, ye also SHALL SIT UPON TWELVE THRONES, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matt.19:28)

The coming "glory" [raise in honor and esteem] of God is going to be what God shall determine each and every Child of His shall be given [what they deserve].

The twelve apostles of Jesus Christ shall be GLORIFIED as KINGS in the Kingdom of God!!!

Jesus Christ: "...hast made us unto our God KINGS and PRIESTS: and WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH." (Rev.5:10)

That's "glorification" in action [raised up in stature, position and authority]... and the simplest grouping of understandable dictionary words.

Glorify is to give honor to something... to raise it to a higher level than it's generally given:

"Father, GLORIFY THY NAME. Then there came a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again." (John 12:28)

The "glory" of God's name is not given its proper due in this world. More often than not, it's an epithet, resulting in a tirade of human emotion. But, the Bible tells us that in the future, God will "glorify His name" among the nations... raise Himself up for all to see. They will give Him due honor and praise, and all shall bow before Him:

"Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are Holy. ALL NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU, for your Righteous acts have been revealed." (Rev.15:4 NIV)

While the dictionary is the place to begin in one's basic understanding of the words of the Bible [or any other book]... understanding also how "glorify" is used in biblical context expands on its ultimate meaning well beyond most people's ability to imagination... and accept.

It comes down to "change." This world has changed since its creation... and it's still undergoing change. Man's high-tech advances, coupled with his wicked imagination [see Gen.6:5], make the earth's future suspect, regarding how much longer man may be able to keep it all intact as a living planet.

"...then shall be Great Tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be [again]. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." (Matt.24:21-22)

The Bible says, the time is coming when man will bring this world to the brink of ending all life on it.

It won't be until around this chronological time in Bible prophecy, that God's name will be given the honor it deserves among the nations of the world. At this time, Jesus Christ will return:

"...THEN shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven: and THEN shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and THEY SHALL SEE the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with Power and GREAT GLORY." (verse 30)

Glorify is a VERB... involving ACTION! Glorification doesn't just "happen." Someone or something MAKES IT HAPPEN.

God, Himself, is going to GLORIFY [raise up in honor, esteem, praise and worship] His Holy, Righteous, Sacred NAME in this world in due time... by personally coming back to stand upon it, for all to see... so that all the nations will finally "believe."

That's in the context of the Bible.

And when He does that... He's also going to GLORIFY His Family among the nations of the world [raise His "saints" up into positions of Power and Authority over the nations], as they inherit the Kingdom of God, jointly, with His Firstborn Son, Jesus Christ.

"...he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron..." (Rev.2:26-27).

"...the Ancient of Days came, and Judgment was given to the saints [God's Children are 'glorified' - raised in stature and authority over the nations] of the Most High; and THE TIME CAME that the saint possessed the Kingdom." (Dan.7:22)

That will, at long last, be biblical "glorification" in "action."
